OCA’s Video Scholarship contest for their upcoming “Changing Media Images of Asian Americans Symposium” next month, May 31!

A message from OCA-OC:

OCA is sponsoring a video scholarship contest for our upcoming “Changing Media Images of Asian Americans Symposium” next month, May 31!

It is a panel discussion where we invite Asian Pacific Americans entertainers to share with our audience their experiences in the mainstream media.  The objective of the discussion is to address the challenges of an APA actor/actress or singer, model myth characters, opportunities, and the direction of the entertainment industry, especially for APAs.

This is open to Orange County high school juniors and seniors only to submit a short video on the following three main topics we will be discussing:

a.       Portrayal of Asian Americans in the Media and Responses from the Asian Community

b.      Overcoming Stereotypes

c.       Diversity and Inclusion of Asian-Americans in the media

OCA-OC will be announcing three winners and showcasing their piece prior to each topic discussion.

The link below is for all the contest application and details with deadline on May 14.

In partnership with the Office of State Senator Lou Correa, the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA) is pleased to invite you to the 4th Annual Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration.  This memorable evening will be held at the Garden Grove Community Center located on 11300 Stanford Avenue, Garden Grove 92840 from 5:30-8:30pm on Wednesday, May 9, 2012.
We would like to invite you to join us in celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month through your active participation on the night of the event.  Opportunities to participate include setting up an information table about your organization and/or offering ethnic foods for the community to enjoy.   The evening will provide your organization an appropriate setting to promote your services, history, and upcoming events. Our goal is to have a variety of tables representing diverse cultures so that we can all get to know and support one another for years to come. We appreciate your collaboration to seek food donations within your community for this annual event.
The evening’s program will include unique cultural performances by local artists and groups and an awards ceremony to recognize local unsung community heroes.  We are also seeking partners who would be interested in performing to showcase the artistic talents of our communities.
We hope that this Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration will help build relationships among our organizations, allowing us to become more informed and involved with each other’s events.  The celebration will be free for the public to attend so please invite your friends, family, coworkers, and colleagues!
